Today on TV: Controversial superhero finale of a brilliant series that unbelievably was never continued.

Today, you can catch the third and final installment of an outstanding superhero trilogy on TV. It was extremely successful but never continued. The conclusion of The Dark Knight Rises actually seems to set up a sequel directly. However, Christopher Nolan never filmed a fourth part of the celebrated and successful Batman trilogy. Watch the conclusion tonight on TV.

About The Dark Knight Rises:

After Batman (Christian Bale) dealt with the deranged Joker (Heath Ledger) in The Dark Knight, the next villain, Bane (Tom Hardy), takes a different approach. Where the Joker was unpredictable, Bane appears threatening mainly due to two things: his ability to captivate the masses and his sheer physical presence.

Bane is a ruthless mercenary and terrorist. He not only wants to seize control of Gotham City but also break Batman—literally. This leads Bruce Wayne to resurface after eight years and seek assistance, including from the mysterious Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway).

Despite enormous success, Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy remained at three films.

At the end of The Dark Knight Rises, Bruce Wayne seems to genuinely retire. Additionally, a possible successor or sidekick, Robin, is teased. The last two parts of the Dark Knight trilogy were a massive success at the box office, as The Numbers show.

However, despite this success, there was never a sequel, and Christian Bale (via Toronto Sun) cites a simple reason: Christopher Nolan didn't initially plan a trilogy. Additional sequels were commissioned only thanks to promising box office results. Accordingly, the story concludes at a narratively meaningful point, disregarding further franchise plans.
